Tonight we will meet at 5pm in the studio and work with speedlights. Amy
and Jerry will be showing some techniques for both Nikon and Canon shooters
and to take advantage of the nice blue twilight skies we will be meeting at
5 in the Comm studio. If that’s too early don’t worry, just show up when
you can!
Bring your camera and any speedlights and accessories you have. We will
have stands, umbrellas, soft boxes, beauty dishes, grids, snoots,
reflectors, gels, backdrops, diffusers, off-camera cables, wireless
transmitters, and more - all made to use with tiny portable powerful
speedlights. We will do some demo shots and shoot tethered so you can
quickly see the results of changing the size and distance of your lights
and how changing the shutter speed and aperture changes the picture. We
will have a list of the equipment we’re using and links to find everything
online. Plus, a buddy of mine is selling a ton of wireless equipment, come
tonight to have first chance at getting good prices on barely used
equipment.
See you tonight at 5 and bring your camera and lighting gear, even if you
don’t have a strobe you can borrow ours and get some great images!
We will be printing images during our meeting on Mon, Oct 4, 6pm AT THE SCHOOL OF DARKROOM. If you can’t attend please deliver digital copies to someone that is. See the post below regarding sizes. We DO NEED TO KNOW the title and color of matte board you want to be used. And the money to pay for paper (we are printing at school), and the matte board (Hidden Light is giving us a great deal on matte board and Lisa Simpson is cutting the window mattes).
We will be hanging photos in the School of Comm Gallery the week of Oct 11 (details coming) and our opening celebration will be during Parent’s Weekend on either Oct 15, 16 or 17, so watch for updates and bring the fam to buy raffle tix!
After that we will move the photos and eventually have our closing ceremony during the Nov 5 artwalk, another fun event!

tonight at the PJOne meeting we talked about the finishing touches to the photos that will be submitted for the raffle coming up in October. To help you out here is a break down of how to prepare your photos to be matted.
Crop your photo to fit one of the following sizes:
10x15, 11x17 OR 12x16. We will use either black or white matte, you decide.
photos will be matted at 16x20
If you haven’t been able to make any of the Monday night meetings hosting a potluck Sunday, Oct. 3rd and viewing photos people wish to put into the raffle. Photos should be digital copies on a storage device so they can be viewed on a laptop with no wi-fi. Keep in mind any photos you bring should be your finished product.

The points started over since we had students graduate and leave us. Judging will be completed by Mon, Sep 27 and prizes will be awarded at the meeting at Drury.
We are homeless! Just kidding, it’s not that bad. We’ve actually had a lot of fun meeting at NiMarco’s, BWW, Oregano’s and the Comm studio. To try and alert everyone well in advance, here’s our meeting location schedule for the next month:

We had a great meeting that moved from Comm to Oregano’s! Crystal, Lisa Simpson, Audrey, Taja, Kayla, Heather, Laura and Jerry all critiqued images for the raffle and shared some pizza.
Item’s we discussed:
Shane Knight is considering having our raffle finale in his gallery downtown. This would be awesome! If not, we are looking at Sundara and Wine Loft. Other suggestions?
We are still in the process of helping everyone decide what to print for the raffle. The deadline for prints is our Oct 4 meeting. That week Lisa and Jerry will be mounting and matting the prints at Hidden Light. Oct 11 we will have our opening reception in the Comm Gallery (pending approval for the gallery space). We will then move the raffle to a gallery downtown and have the closing finale Nov 5 during the artwalk. If you would like to donate a matted print please start by posting your image on our Flickr group.
Kendra has volunteered to help make some advertising materials for the show. The deadline to submit JPG images to be considered for the posters in Sep 27. At that meeting we will choose the best images to advertise our raffle.

We are planning an international photo shoot in May or June 2011 to either Costa Rica or Peru. Stay tuned for details.
